After 27 hours, 3 flights, and 15,000 kilometres, I’ve made it to Melbourne! I was lucky and had smooth sailing – no delays or lost baggage. The 14+ hour flight from Vancouver to Brisbane was LONG, but I was able to sleep for a good chunk of it and read, journaled, and listened to music so it wasn’t too bad.
A few things I learned in the last two days…
- Headbands make good eye masks.
- Noise-cancelling headphones are worth their weight in gold.
- My belt bag (no, it’s NOT a fanny pack) was indispensible for keeping my essentials close and pockets empty while navigating new airports.
- Having my notebook was great because boredom stimulates creativity and I was able to make my to-do list of things I have to do now that I’m here, and brainstorm ideas for the blog, activities I want to try, etc.
- There is no better feeling than removing your compression socks after your flight.
- Having non-crushable snacks just makes sense. I brought dried fruit and nuts to munch on.
- Not everything will go as planned, so have a back-up. My credit card got flagged for fraud (even though I told them I was coming) and my debit card didn’t get delivered to the bank, so I had to make a phone call and now I have a bank account but no way of using it other than the old fashioned way. Oh well – I’m just happy my luggage made it with me!
We are so happy you’ve made it! Great travel tips! Looking forward to following along 😘
