In the process of migrating my website, I seem to have lost my last month or so of posts, so I’ll include the drafted version of my east coast trip following from Broken Hill to Sydney, Sunshine Coast, K’gari, Noosa, Brisbane, and Byron Bay. Technical difficulties seem too common, but no problem – let’s get on with wrapping this trip up!
My trip highlight was getting to go surfing, and even standing up to catch a couple waves! Though I have no proof of my surfing success, you can see the rest of my trip’s highlight reel on Instagram.
Here is a rough map of the route I followed on my adventure:

It’s time for everybody’s favourite part: my budget breakdown! My 19 day trip cost me just under $4300 AUD, distributed as follows:

I love using You Need A Budget, and their podcast “Budget Nerds” is very fitting.
I saw so many cool Australian animals – but no snakes! The species spotted:
- Australian sea lions
- Lace monitor lizards (AKA Goannas)
- Western grey kangaroo
- Kangaroo Island kangaroo
- Australian fur seal
- Long-nosed fur seal
- Red kangaroos
- Shingle backed lizard
- Emus
- Golden orb spiders
- Red fox
- Eastern grey kangaroos
- Dingos
- Mako shark (I think… it was dead and on the shore of K’gari)
- Catfish
- White-bellied sea eagle
- Australian brushturkey
- Feral pigs
- Tree termites
- Blue bottle jellyfish
- Bottlenose dolphins
- Sand bubbler crabs
Lastly, a list of the things I lost along my route, because it wouldn’t be my blog without it. I’m just glad they were easily replaced!
- my contact lens solution on Kangaroo Island
- two bottles of sunscreen in Adelaide
- sunglasses case in Rainbow Beach
- my hostel key in Noosa
- water bottle in Byron Bay (but I found it at the beach!)
The rest of the pages will have my drafted posts from before, so please excuse any peculiar syntax 🙂
See you soon!
Kate
How do you lose so many items? Do you need a better knapsack?
