As promised, here is my recap from the first day of my Top End tour. I got to spend the first week of the break between terms 3 and 4 unplugged and seeing the highlights of Australia’s Top End in the Northern Territory. I’m going to try to keep it concise, but my tour was jam packed. So, grab a coffee and keep reading for a peek at the AMAZING time I had! Let me start off – Australia’s natural beauty is surpassing my every expectation.

The Top End: Packing for the tropics
For this term break, I planned a 6 day trip to Australia’s “Top End”, the region full of diverse flora, fauna and geologic features in the northern portion of the Northern Territory. I booked a 5 day/4 night tour that covered 1500+ km throughout the Kakadu, Nitmiluk, and Litchfield National Parks, and Arnhem Land. My plane ticket included 7 kg across two items for baggage, which I was determined to make work for this trip. How did I manage that? Carefully!

I’ve been in the Southern Hemisphere for a month already?! It really doesn’t feel like it. Here’s my first month, by the numbers:

I’m glad to say I’ve found a place to call home! The search was intense and draining. Between choosing a suburb, finding a person who was responsive on flatmates.com.au, coordinating a time to meet, then assessing the meeting after (because I can’t not overthink), it’s such a relief to know I’ve got my long-term accommodations lined up.

My world is CHANGED. I accepted a position at a school for Thursday after checking the location that it wasn’t too far of a commute. Then I did a little more research into the school. It was a Catholic school. I’m not Catholic.
That’s fine, it’s good to try new things, right?

It’s been a busy few days! My jet lag is almost resolved, although it’s pushing me to go to bed early (is 7 pm too early?), and I’ve been getting settled in, tackling lots of administrative stuff, and having just a little bit of fun starting to explore. Here’s a recap of my first few days:
